White Pass & Yukon Railroad #3 & Skagway

Summit Lake was in fog so this is about all we saw
Coming out of the second tunnel
Mystery train
Old trestle they used before the tunnel was built
Another shot of the old trestle
Really dramatic views
The train below us
Here's Mickey again. This time I was looking for him
Downtown Skagway on Broadway looking west
Looking east. This is quite a town! Tomorrow night we go to our last vaudeville show, then we leave Alaska Tuesday and start back through Canada

White Pass & Yukon Railroad #2

Pretty waterfall
Another train ahead of us
Very small train ahead. Trestle to cross then first of 2 tunnels
Still the other train
The other train
Our train
Around a curve
Over a trestle
The River we crossed over on the trestle
The rest of the train on the trestle
Brenda is our resident picture taker! She takes a lot of pictures and her camera survived the soaking on the boat yesterday
Where we have been. Looking toward Skagway
I took this one to show where we'd been and the River. When I was reviewing it I noticed the Micky Mouse on the rock!
We're getting into clouds
It's still beautiful
The first tunnel
Train crossing treat just before the first tunnel
Beautiful
Cool shot going around curve
Almost to the summit. Way over there is the road

White Pass & Yukon Railroad

Skagway River
Our train going over a trestle
Train going over Skagway River
Very close to mountain
Still close
Skagway harbor
Clouds coming
Close on both sides at Rocky Point
The highway to Skagway. Looks level, but remember we are climbing
More highway (Milepost Book says 8-11% grade)
More highway

Looking back down the canyon. Yes, that's the road on the right again
Around a curve
The road. When we went on this train ride in 2009, we couldn't believe people drove on this road much less drove RVs on this road. Now we do ....

Juneau & boat ride back to Skagway

Mendenhall Glacier just north of Juneau. Need to get out picture from 2009 to see how far it has receded.
Mendenhall Glacier with the falls.
Shoreline. No whales this trip, but the seas were a little calmer. I say a little calmer--we did have one wave that washed up and over the boat from front to back and soaked Brenda, who was sitting just behind the cabin on the back of the boat! It was quite the ride.
A boat that we passed on the trip
This is one of the ferries that RVers take from Haines to Seattle. It takes 3 days by ferry. Driving from Haines to Seattle takes about 10 days.
We passed an area where a glacier river meets the sea causing this dramatic color change in the water. There's a lot of silt in the water. This also happened close to Juneau and boats can no longer navigate that section because it's so shallow.
Taken from inside the cabin. The water on the window is not from rain, it is from the waves splashing up on the window
I took this one to show the color of the water. Great day, mecklazine worked really well although I was a bit drowsy all day! Today we get to take the White Pass & Yukon Railroad three hour trip.
