Scheeler Family Reunion 2015

We started the reunion at dinner with just our immediate family. Jim and Nancy had recommended Cowgirls and they were right it was great. This was the dessert Howard & Trish shared: ice cream rolled in cocoa, topped with whipped cream and custard. Great dinner, great to visit!

On Thursday we drove to Taos to go to the Taos Pueblo. We drove with Hediya and Lisa riding along. The countryside was beautiful!
Heddy posing in front of the Rio Grande Canyon. We later drove down into this canyon and along the river. It was very much an adventure for our "eastern" cousins! Heddy loved it, Lisa wasn't so sure at first...
The family stopped for lunch in Taos before traveling to the Pueblo. Great shot of family.
We were waiting for our tour of the Pueblo. Just milling around in front of the church.
This is the north side of the pueblo. The clouds were wonderful all day.
This is the north side taken from the south side of the pueblo.
The creek that separates the Pueblo is the life blood of the Pueblo. Yes, there are people who still live in the Pueblo just as they've done for over 1000 years!
On the way to the bridge over the Rio Grande Canyon, Lisa turned to say something to me and spotted 4 big horn sheep by the side of the road, so we turned around so we could get some good pictures.
The Rio Grande way down there. The Canyon was magnificent, a definite WOW.
Before we started down into the canyon the road turned into this gravel road. This is just after the first switch back. I think Lisa would have walked at this point!
Driving down in the canyon looking up was very beautiful. Lots of rafters on the river, especially as we got closer to Pinon.
Our tour of Santa Fe would not have been complete without seeing the Spiral Staircase. The story goes that they build the chapel for the Loretto Convent, but they couldn't figure out how to get to the choir loft unless they used a ladder. The nuns held a 9 day novena to St. Joseph to find a way to build something. On the 9th day a man showed up with his mule and 3 carpenter tools. He build the staircase and then disappeared. It was later discovered that the wood used wasn't even local wood! Architects and engineers have tried to figure out what holds the staircase up, there are 3 theories, but no one has been able to figure out how it was done! The nuns always believed St. Joseph himself build the staircase.
These next few pictures are just family on the patio visiting in the evenings of the reunion. The house was great with 2 living rooms and 2 kitchens and this huge patio!

Kathy had a flight that left at 5:35pm Monday so Howard & I made reservations in Albuquerque so we could take her to the airport. She got a text about 4:30 that her flight would be delayed about an hour so she would miss her connecting flight in Salt Lake City. She made arrangements to fly out this morning (Tuesday) at 6:05 so she got a room close to the airport. In the meantime, we decided to go to Old Town Albuquerque, look around and have dinner. From the RV park to there we drove on the old Route 66.

The message on the sign at the Back Yard Grill reads "Vaya Con Dios." It was a bit windy and we had some thunder, but it was a good place for dinner. The delay cost Kathy though -- she found another pot!!

The sun came out to shine a bit on Sandia Peak. What a beautiful evening!
The clouds over the desert. It's so cool to see the rain off in the distance and the variation of the sun.
We had a great time at the reunion. We are now headed to Gallup, NM.
