Today we drove to Burley to see Jenn & Jasons' house and to see Shoshone Falls. The picture above is of Shoshone Falls from the viewing platform. Lots of water in the Snake River right now!!!
Taken from the back deck at Jenn and Jasons' house, this picture is toward the picnic area which is part-way under water. There is usually a small beach here, now it's just water. We saw no high water marks along the river.
I took this picture from the deck looking down river. The water in the foreground is usually a small creek, not a part of the Snake river!
You can see a bit of Shoshone Falls from the top of the hill (and it is much drier here!) This is mostly the upper falls.
Closer view of the upper falls of Shoshone Falls. The water flows around these rocks and pools in areas prior to dropping down the lower falls.
This is toward the lower falls. You can see a bit of the spray from the lower falls in this picture.
We walked to a lookout above the viewing platform and took a few pictures. We were getting really wet from the spray of the falls and a bit of rain. Funny though, there was no rain at the top of the hill, only when we were in this area.
I liked this picture of Shoshone Falls with the sage brush in the foreground. It is a desert falls after all. It must have been very frustrating for the early pioneers on the Oregon Trail to follow this river for so many miles, but have no way to get down to the water! The canyon is pretty deep through this area.
Shot of Shoshone Falls from the viewing platform. Lots of water!!
We did notice that you can't see the bottom of the falls because of so much spray! It's really hard to believe that at certain times of year there is no water flowing over these falls! The water is held in the dams up river to be used for irrigation of all the farmland. Pretty amazing site!
